With an intoxicating blend of old world Arabian charm and heritage, and modernity less showy than some of its neighbours, Oman begs to be explored. Occupying the southeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula, flanked by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Oman is astoundingly beautiful. Its topography is varied and dramatic, with rugged rocky mountains and deep water inlets in the north, vast windswept dunes and salt flats in the central interior, verdant green hills in the southern Dhofar province, and a coastline stretching thousands of miles with spectacular beaches and secluded coves. Muscat, the port capital, has a rich history that can be sensed as you stroll its traditional streets. Immerse yourself in the exotic sights, tastes, sounds and smells of the imposing Grand Mosque, the chaotic Mutrah souq (bazaar) and fish market, and the grand Sultan’s Palace.
