Tasmania's diverse landscapes, compact size and excellent road network make the island state a fabulous self drive destination. Visit Hobart, Strahan, Cradle Mountain and Launceston on this West Coast suggested itinerary. This trip allows plenty of time to take in the key highlights of this area.

Suggested Itinerary:
Day 1/2 - Collect your rental car and start your adventure in Hobart, this vibrant city with its colonial heritage offers an arts and foodie scene with many festivals. Possibly spend a few hours at Port Arthur Historic Site, followed by an evening ghost tour if time permits.
Overnight in Hobart 2 nights with a full day Moorilla Wine Meets Art Tour

Day 3/4 - Hobart to Strahan, the drive time is approximately 4 hours 20 minutes. On the way suggested stops at New Norfolk in the Derwent Valley for antiques and vintage treasures. Stand before the Wall in the Wilderness, a gallery in Derwent Bridge housing a series of carved Huon pine panels documenting the region's history. Explore the art galleries, museums and lookouts in Queenstown, once the world's richest mining town. Strahan is a flourishing harbourside village. Perhaps take in the nightly performance of The Ship That Never Was, a swashbuckling true tale of 19th century hijack & escape.
Overnight in Strahan 2 nights with a Full Day Gordon River Cruise

Day 5/6 - Strahan to Cradle Mountain, the drive time is approximately 2 hours. If time permits in the morning before departing experience the West Coast Wilderness Railway. Visit the heritage town of Zeehan, and take the easy one-hour return walk along the Spray Tunnel, an abandoned 100-metre train tunnel that once led to a silver mine. Whilst in Cradle Mountain ensure a walk around either Dove Lake circuit or Crater Lake circuit. Get in touch with nature & wildlife.

Day 7 - Cradle Mountain to Launceston, the drive time is approximately 2 hours. Stop at Cataract Gorge - take a walk, ride the chairlift & cross the suspension bridge.
Overnight in Launceston 1 night with a 50 minute Cataract Gorge Cruise

Day 8 - Morning at leisure possibly take a walk through City Park and visit the monkeys or check out the exhibitions at Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery. Drop off your rental car and your onward flight
